Greater sorrow prepares us for greater joy!
As I read and re read and listened to Elder Budge’s talk “Consistent and resilient trust” the phrase “sorrow prepares you for joy” wouldn’t leave my mind. The more sorrow we experience here in mortality, the more joy we will one day have. We are taught that to know the sweet taste, we must first know and taste the bitter. (James 3:11, D&C 29:39) We must pass through sorrow to know of that pure joy that will come. We can better appreciate the joy we experience and the sorrow we feel because we know the difference through personal experiences. We’ve been through that ourselves and KNOW.
I am grateful for the trials I have passed through. They have been some of the most challenging and difficult times of my life that have made me into the person God wants me to be. But don’t get me wrong, going through them at the moment, is hard. Being grateful for them in the moment? That is a totally different question. Haha it’s not easy, but I think that’s the point. Trials aren’t SUPPOSED to be easy. If they were, we wouldn’t learn anything.
When we go through challenging times, I think it helps us turn to God more. We realize we cannot and should not do it on our own. We NEED our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, both of them. They are waiting with open arms to help us, not to necessarily take it away, but to help us along. They give us strength, courage, and peace to continue to move forward.
Shall I falter or shall I finish is a question I find myself asking. Will I give in and let the pain and grief consume me or will I learn what God wants me to learn so that I can become better? So that I can have that JOY and be more thankful for it.
I am grateful for hard things. I know Heavenly Father sends us these trials/sorrows to prepare us for something better. For the promised blessings He has in store for us. I’m not perfect or even good at doing this, but I am trying. And always remember that we definitely get credit for that! If we TRUST God and have faith in His plan, He helps us along, guides our lives, and never stops showing us He cares. Elder Holland says “You can have what you want or you can have something better.” Just TRUST HIM. And for that, I will always be GRATEFUL. ♥️🙏🏻☀️😭🥰
