Movies & the transportation theory! πΏ π₯π¬π₯²
New post! π« ππ»ππ»❤️ππ»
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love movies. I love watching movies, quoting movies, and going to the movie theater! Growing up, my family and I would spend time together watching movies and being together. We still do that and it brings joy to my heart when we come together and watch a good one or laugh so hard because we all quoted something funny from one of our favorites!
One of the many things I love about movies is that it transports you into a whole other world! A world where anything goes! In communication studies at Utah State, I learned about the only theory I really remember called the transportation theory. This happens when you get so involved in a movie, tv show, or book that you literally transport yourself into that realm. When characters die, you cry. When there is a sad part, you’re sad. When the series ends, you feel like you’ve lost your friends and a part of you is missing. But when there is a funny part you laugh! It’s one of my favorite things! You really begin to love these characters & maybe even vicariously live through them!
Movies, tv shows, and books are a way for us to leave our worries behind and mentally go somewhere else. They are a way for us to relax, unwind, and let go.
They are freeing.
They help me cry when I feel sad.
They help me cope with things that are happening in my life.
The music and the score have a way of moving me.
And as silly as it may sound, sometimes the spirit speaks to me through movies.
Life has it’s ups and it’s down. It’s twists and its turns. It has it’s good times and bad. But it also has beautiful moments where you go from feeling sad and down to feeling comforted and never alone or forgotten. ❣️
I hope the next time you read a good book, watch a sad movie, listen to a beautiful song, or laugh at a comedy, that you will live in that moment. I hope you let go of your worries and whatever it is that is weighing heavily on your mind and just breathe. Everything is going to be okay! π #godislove #blessed #godisgood
